What is Decolonize?

DECOLONIZE is a radical retreat for people of color to listen, learn, teach, engage and build with one another over the course of two days. The purpose of this time is to bring together activists working across human, animal and environmental justice movements to better understand each other, challenge each other and unite in the fight to decolonize ourselves as individuals and as a community within the United States. While pushing for policy and structural change is important, the un-conference is a space to push beyond dismantling oppressive systems and imagine alternatives for the present and future of our communities.

Who should apply?

Only people of color can apply to attend this event. White allies are encouraged to support by making a donation/reparation. All ages and activist experience levels are welcome. Priority will be given to local applicants, and applicants that can attend both Saturday & Sunday.

Is there a cost?

No, this event is free for all attendees. Selected speakers will be provided a small honorarium in addition to housing and transportation, if needed. We will also provide lunch, snacks, and water to all attendees and speakers on both days. Carpools can also be arranged.

Don’t be intimidated by this form! This is just to help us better understand your experience and interests in order to create an event that you will enjoy and learn from. If/when you are admitted, you must confirm your attendance within one week in order to help us plan the event accordingly. If a conflict arises and you are no longer able to attend, please inform us immediately so that we may open your spot to another applicant.

As mentioned above, priority will be given to applicants that can attend both days (Saturday & Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm).
